we are coming down to Costa Rica for a three week holiday and need to know which cell phone provider is the best. I have an unlocked iPhone 5 that I would like to use. Is there a pay as you go type sim card available?
I have been very happy with Kolbi. As you are leaving the airport, you can stop by their desk and get a new SIM card and buy some minutes. You can add minutes at any place with the Kolbi sign across the country………and they are everywhere. The cost of local calls is 1.5 cents/minute. You can also make international calls but I can’t remember the cost as we use FaceTime.
Very easy to use.
On a somewhat related topic: I want to bring an Ipad down with me. What type is compatible to use to get the sim card in Costa Rica? GSM, TDMA, 3G, 4G? I was intending to ‘accidentially’ forget the ipad as a way of saying thanks to my Tica extended family for their ever giving hospitality… But I want to make sure it works there. (it would sort of not be much of a surprise if data didn’t work, and they could only use it at home on wifi)
Any thoughts?
Mucho Gusto.
