Does anyone have any thoughts on retiring to San Isidro de El General or Orosi? I’d appreciate comments on the same factors that came up in replying to the Moving to Costa Rica question. I think these towns I am inquiring about are a little further time-wise from San Jose, so am particularly interested in road and bus transport information. I am a 65 year old single woman and am also interested in the quality of services from the CAJA facilities in these areas. Also, if you are in one of these places, what do you love about your area? And what are its significant limitations in your view?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.January 26, 2012 at 12:01 am #159575AndrewKeymasterOrosi is not that far from San Jose but San Isidro certainly is …
The bus service in Costa Rica is extensive and very affordable..
You can download the *Costa Rica Bus Fares March 2010* from our Download Library at:

I’ll try and find a more current one …
We have VIP Members living in both areas – including regular contributor Jan Hart in San Isidro – and would encourage you to visit all of these areas before making a decision on where to rent.

If you have any pre-existing condition and need to be close to doctors and decent medical care then I would not consider Orosi. Also–hope you like warm and humid most of the time because that’s Orosi. It’s beautiful there, however. Not very developed at all compared to many other areas of CR so if you want peace and tranquility it’s a good option. Best advice, however is to digest the feedback you get and then go spend some quality time in the places that sound interesting. I, personally, love the areas south of Dominical all the way down to The Osa.
January 26, 2012 at 4:38 am #159577AndrewKeymasterI’m not sure we’re speaking about the same Orosi….
The Orosi I know – which I have visited on dozens of occasions – is on the other side of Cartago which is less than one hour from San Jose and a lot closer than four hours …
The elevation at the very old Orosi church is 1,058M making at a very comfortable climate …

You’re 100% correct! I was brain dead when I replied. I was thinking of Ojochal which is south of Dominical. I have been to Orosi and looked at properties there and I lov that area too. A bit cooler and wetter and I happen to enjoy that.Beautiful area and close enough to San Jose so you have access to all the amenities. Highly recommend the poster check it out.
January 26, 2012 at 2:19 pm #159579AndrewKeymasterIt happens frequently here Bogino as you probably know with dozens and dozens of places like Playa Hermosa, it’s easy to get confused…
