THE DOCUMENTS I BROUGHT HERE TO START THE PENSIONADO PROCESS HAVE LONG SINCE EXPIRED, SO, ACCORDING TO THE NEW IMMIGRATION LAW A FINE OF $100 PER EACH MONTH THAT IS HAVE BEEN HERE—IN MY CASE AMOUNTING TO ABOUT $3,600 WILL BE IMPOSED AND THE REGISTRO CIVIL WILL REQUIRE PROOF OF PAYMENT BEFORE WE CAN COMPLETE THE MARRIAGE REGISTRATION PROCESS. IS THIS TRUE???

HI! You have to pay for the doucments that are expired or becasue you have been here for 3 years (do you leave every 3 motnhs?)
SINCE I HAVE SPENT ALL OF MY INCOME IN THIS ECONOMY FOR THREE YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER CAUSED ANY PROBLEMS WITH ANY AUTHORITY, I WOULD NEVER PAY A FINE OF $3600 FOR MERELY LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY, EVEN IF I COULD AFFORD IT. THIS GOVERNMENT APPEARS TO WANT TO RID ITSELF OF LOW INCOME PENSIONERS.

You are the one who made the conscious decision to live here illegally and you are the one who must face the consequences …
If you choose not to pay the fine then you have only yourself to blame if the immigration authorities throw you out, surely?

Hysterical Scott! I just don’t get why people think it is okay to live here ILLEGALLY and then when it comes to getting fined, think they shouldn’t have to pay?! Don’t people understand immigration laws? This isn’t just a place for people to come, use government-provided services, and think it won’t cost them a dime. It’s not free anywhere else, why would it be free here? LOL!

they should give people applying for residency a psych eval. that would sure weed out the crazy ones. these are the same people who bitch about the mexicans in the U.S.
it’s true, david; i’ve met more than a handful of people who believe they can just plop themselves down in costa rica, avoid all immigration requirements, and then complain about the illegal immigrants in the U.S. i don’t see how one is different than the other in the long run.

With regard to legal residency status, I was surprised to see how much outrage that Arizona laws caused in Latin America, mostly Mexico, but everywhere I have gone in Latin America I have hyad to bring my passport with me and prove that I am in thr country legally. I really don’t have problem with that on either side. You gotta follow the laws wherever you are.
