Greetings to all,
Can any other members give me any advice or informtion on the pricing, purchasing and the pros and cons of having one in Costa Rica. We recently purchased a home in Playa Hermosa, Guancaste; and we are considering purchasing a jacuzzi for our new home. During our last visit to CR two months ago, we went with a friend to a Do-It center, where I saw a couple on display, unfortunately, I do not recall the prices.

Here is one on craigslist for sale (the first one i’ve seen) for $7,500 : http://costarica.es.craigslist.org/hsh/1469473668.html
Though building a 8 person concrete, in ground, ceramic tile finished Jacuzzi would be cheaper even then that used one.

Thanks for the information. The prices had my head spinning, thought they would be cheapter in CR.November 27, 2009 at 1:30 pm #161090costaricafincaParticipantHere is a link to a prefabricated pool company, that offers good pricing, www.ecopiscinas.net based in Orotina. One of their small ones may offer something you can work with. Easier to phone, than to expect a reply to an email…

And nothing that’s imported here will be cheaper; it’ll be more expensive due to both the shipping costs and the import duties. This applies equally to Jacuzzis and jacks-in-the-box. Everything imported is more expensive. Maintaining an American lifestyle here, with lots of American amenities, won’t be cheap.
As you think about this project, please do consider the energy cost issue. It may well be true that an in-ground eight person swirly tub would be cheaper to have built than purchasing a Jacuzzi, but will you be willing to heat the water? Electricity isn’t cheap; it’s going to be more expensive in a couple of months; and the more you use the higher the rate.

But, them again, do you want to add this type of system, to your new home?November 27, 2009 at 6:27 pm #161093caliskatariParticipant
It may well be true that an in-ground eight person swirly tub would be cheaper to have built than purchasing a Jacuzzi, but will you be willing to heat the water? Thats assuming electric is the only way to heat water, which isn’t true, here are the options here in Guanacaste:
– Propane
– Solar Water Heating with storage and secondary heating source
– And of course, electric.Of course you only heat the water when you want to use it. And with a in ground unit the water will stay warmer and constant naturaly. It would end up being used without heated water many times I would imagine.. like a “cool off pool” with jets.
I built a Jacuzzi earilier this year for a client, the most expensive part of it was the water heater, which was not cheap in CR. It was not a stand alone Jacuzzi but a part of their pool.. Anyways, They opted for electric, but I was able to get a high effeciancy heater from the US which I am sure reduced their electric costs long term. It even has a mini – waterfall splashing into it which you can adjust for hot, cold or warm water. A built in Jacuzzi, besides being more affordable, does not have to be located on a deck, or concrete slab, which saves more money. You can also design it how you want, pick your tile and color, shape, add a water fall or fountain, and would be a perminate investment in your property. And, btw, could never be stolen!
November 27, 2009 at 7:12 pm #161094BanderaMemberDear General
I have a jazzipool that is still in the crate sealed in plastic brand new $5K or offer. Where is your house located?
Are you on active duty?
I have an article how to build solar water heaters cheaply. Use the free sunlight. I am in Playa Bandera.
Email me some picks of your home?

November 27, 2009 at 9:26 pm #161096DavidCMurrayParticipantWe’ve had solar water heaters on our homes in Lansing, Michigan (second-worst location for solar applications in the U.S.), Southern Shores, North Carolina, and here in Grecia. They have all worked perfectly well. I don’t understand why anyone would build a home without one.
Here, in Costa Rica, where there is no risk of freezing, solar water heaters are even simpler and less expensive than in cold climates. Do it!

Of course, if one was to go there and offer them cash, they would probably lower the price…December 1, 2009 at 8:19 pm #161098soldierMembercostaricafinca,
We were also at a Do-It-Center in October, like yourself, having lunch and killing time (to open a bank account.) I looked at one while we were there (not expecting them to have any), I do not remember the price; the price you mentioned does seem right, from the little I remember. I do remember thinking the price is very reasonable, much like the Home Depot and Lowes here in the States.December 1, 2009 at 8:58 pm #161099costaricafincaParticipantTo me the price seemed a very good price and it looked like a nice unit. This one has been on display, for as long as I can remember, so perhaps that is why.
We had been given the wrong time for an appointment in Liberia, so drove out there but purchased nothing! -
