Greetings all. We will be in Costa Rica (Coco beach) for 3 months starting Jan 13. Our condo rent will be prepaid, and we will live on $3000( our pension) a month….BUT..
If we decide to stay longer and “test drive before buying” in Costa Rica can we survive on $3000 a month? I would hope, a furnished condo, with pool and relatively new could be had for ~$1000 a month.
That leaves us ~$2000 a month for living. We live simple, maybe eat out twice a week, and will shop locally for our food.
We enjoy a good party once a week, and are looking forward to buses and taxis for getting around.
SO…without sounding snoopy or rude, can we get by ok on $2000 a month? (after our accomodations are covered).

It would certainly be easy to spend much more than that amount per month but you should be able to live quite comfortably on $3000 per month. $1000 per month should get you a very nice furnished condo with lots of amenities in a wide choice of areas to live in. We live on much less than $1000 per month but then we have a farm and grow some of our own food. Lucky you to have such a generous income!
Don’t forget to add in the cost of using A/C if not included in your rent…but you can afford it!

If you decide to stay longer, the best advice would be to begin early to investigate those categories of legal residency for which you qualify. While it’s true that you can leave the country briefly and be given a new tourist visa upon your return, it is not clear that anyone can continue to do so indefinitely.
Immigration is cracking down on “perpetual tourists”. You could be given a very brief visa or even denied reentry altogether.
IMHO you should be able to live like kings on that kind of an income…
