Hola! Although I have visited CR quite a bit over the years, often spending 6 weeks at a time there on vacation, we were always at the beach. The attraction was the surf among other things. I am wondering what the mosquito situation is like in mountain areas? I am lucky, don’t think I have been bitten even once in all that time. My wife however is not so fortunate and we have a 2 year old that I worry about because of the dengue.
Maybe i’m getting soft in my advancing years, but I worry about my daughter getting dengue fever. Any feedback from those living there would be greatly appreciated.
Both dengue and Chikungunya, which is said to be even worse, can be found in various areas and times of year, especially in containers holding stagnant water or even the plate under a potted plant. Mosquitoes are in all areas at different times of the year….but they are not, thank goodness, as big or bloodthirsty as their Canadian relations…

short answer: more altitude = fewer mosquitos
