How much for a clean, safe. decent apartment or condo to rent?
I’m 63, and see no reason to consider buying anything.
Thanks,

Where are you looking to be? ocean / mountain / city / close to hospital, middle of jungle, Pacific / Carribean?
How long are you planning to stay?
Furnished/Unfurnished?
What do you consider clean / safe?November 28, 2009 at 5:45 pm #162500AndrewKeymasterLike any real estate decision this depends totally on the location and your personal definition of “clean, safe” and “decent.”
You could rent a small Tico home in a rural area for $150 per month or a modest sized, furnished apartment in Santa Ana for $1,200 per month.
Attractively furnished rentals that would be suitable for Gringos at “affordable” prices (under $750 per month) are NOT easy to find and of course most owners want long term renters rather than short term.
At age 63 I would assume that being within a reasonable distance of health care facilities might be a requirement but, you may be strong as an ox and never been sick a day in your life…
Lastly we do have a rental section on this site at [ https://www.welovecostarica.com/public/department53.cfm ]

I’d be retiring from teaching/coach and prefer furnished until I decide where exactly to plant roots. So, close to the water would nice and being single, a place to meet Ticas, nice, decent women, as I’m not into the scene of bars, etc.
thanks.November 29, 2009 at 4:00 pm #162502ImxploringParticipantNice decent women and not into the bar scene….hmmm, so I guess Jaco is NOT on the short list of places you want to be! LOL

Exactly.
I’m sure there are nice women throughout Costa Rica, but the bar/club scene is not for me and “ladies of the evening”.November 29, 2009 at 6:58 pm #162504caliskatariParticipantHere in Guanacaste, there are lots of “Fiestas” which is a Rodeo, with food, drinks, and a dance at night. Each town has one on the weekend and its a great place to meet Ticas. You can also find a nice clean, American style place close to the beach for under $500. Great beaches all around. Lots of Americans around to talk too, all the services you could need (great good, big supermarkets, etc.). Great weather.. just to mention a few of the positive aspects of this area. Feel free to send me a message if your interested in the area, I also have a very nice 2 bedroom house open for rent here.
