I keep reading that the price of fuel is quite high in CR. How high is it? I will be visiting in 4 weeks and renting a small 4 wheel drive. Thanks, Karen:)

Its not europe expensive. Last time I did the math it was a little more than $4/gallon. No biggie, everything is close here 😉

    What about diesel?

Diesel is always a few colones less than regular gas but not necessarily worth the premium you’ll likely pay for a vehicle with a diesel engine. When we moved here in 2005, diesel was consistently about 68% the cost of regular gasoline. That gap has closed significantly in the past couple of years.

And diesel was c514 when I filled up this morning. Part of the reason that diesel is cheaper is that the taxes on it are lower. It’s kind of a subsidy to commercial operators like the bus companies and truckers.

In case you missed this and this is BIG news ….

Bill Gross is a founder of PIMCO where he oversees more than $1 trillion of fixed income securities.

Called “the nation’s most prominent bond investor” by the NYT, Gross manages the world’s largest bond fund and he has sold all US Treasuries.

“After sporting $28.6 billion in “government related” securities, TRF (his Total Return Fund) dropped to $0.0″

FYI—Why Bill Gross has decided to take UST holdings down to zero:

“Bill Gross, co-chief investment officer at Newport Beach-based Pacific Investment Management Co., elaborated Friday on his recent move to sell all U.S. bonds from his $236.9 billion Pimco Total Return fund, the world’s largest mutual fund.

“It is a question of valuation,” Gross said on Bloomberg Television Friday. “It is not a question of departing treasuries based on credit fears.”

The U.S. government is set to maintain its “AAA” credit rating for years, according to Gross. “
