Was returning to San Jose today from Manuel Antonio and looking forward to the new highway to be open to San Jose. But it was still closed today — the date of its scheduled innauguration. Not sure what happened but there seemed to be a lot of annoyed traffic over the mountain to Garita. Factor in the volume, re-painting the road lines — causing major delays. Can’t help wonder whether this delay in the road opening will be an issue when citizens go to the polls soon. I did enjoy my business trip non-the-less though.
Would love to hear a first hand account of a trip from SJO to Jaco via the new highway. We were on parts of it in December, paid the toll and all….
Is the highway now open? Will be back in CR mid Feb and am not aware of the status as of today. Thanks
I’ve seen reports that it is now open. In addition to my above comments. On Wednesday afternoon (1-27) at 3pm, I attempted to continue on the highway to San Jose but it was still blocked at the Orotina interchange. I assume it opened later that day. Many people had expected it to be fully operational in the morning.
Tranquilo .. MAE.. this is costa rica.. you’re lucky it got build.. it only took 30 yrs…
Its all about the Jounery not the destination..enjoy a road w/o potholes, a divider, lines , lights and signage… Ahhhh the road less traveled…its a thing of beauty..:D
There was something in AMcostarica about protests in San Ramon, it blocked El Presidente from passing.
