I was returning from Atenas to Belén this morning and exited at Coyol which is the next exit east from Atenas on Route 27.
I exited left and found the new, smooth and wide asphalt paved highway to Coyol. Within five minutes I was on Route 1 at the Coyol entrance ramp near the Dos Pinos plant and ten minutes later I was at the International Airport in Alajuela.
If you live east of Santa Ana in Alajuela, Heredia or La Uruca and want to avoid the traffic jams on the Lindora road from Santa Ana to Belén, this new alternative is great!
Also, if you’re coming from or going to San Jose from the beaches and want to avoid several toll booths, this new road is your new alternative !
Great FYI, 💡

Can you post a map of this. Could not find on Google Earth.
I’m not capable of posting maps. I’m accustomed to locating the local landmarks and finding my way tico style.
When you’re traveling west to the beaches on the General Canas Highway, (Rte. 1) and you pass the international airport in Alajuela, a few km’s after there you’ll see the big factories on the left and the Dos Pinos plant you cannot miss. Just pass Dos Pinos is the exit for Coyol on the right. You’ll find the new highway after crossing the bridge to the south side of the Rte. 1.
From Rte. 27, exit at the clearly marked Coyol exit and cross over the highway to the left where you’ll see the brand new paved road that will take you to Rte 1.

Actually, I think the La Garrita exit is the first exit to the east after Atenas, then comes Coyol – which if I am right makes it even better!!!
Thanks for the great info!
