I’ll be down for a few weeks over the holidays to visit the inlaws. I need a new pair of glasses, and to also get some contacts. I know there is a significant difference in cost in dental work done in CR compared to the States (so the family gets dental work done when we visit Abuela), but is the difference in vision exams, glasses, contacts significant as well?

While it will be cheaper, a problem could be getting what you need over the holiday period as many businesses close for an extended period.

We’ll be there for a month. I understand glasses may take a while, if that is the case, I can have them made and pick them up when I’m back in May.

If there for a month, it shouldn’t be a problem. I was thinking you meant over Christmas and New Year….
I don’t think contacts are cheaper. I had Lazik surgery here, so no more worries ….

the eye exam is cheap — C5000, but the glasses are very expensive here esp if you want designer frames.

contacts cost me $60 for a six month supply of the one-month lenses.

Has the devaluing dollar affected any of your medical purchases yet?
I don’t see how Costa Rica can support the dollar through the tourist season and QE2

i don’t have any medical purchases — no drugs at all for the humans in my family, but the dogs . . . well, that’s another story. my 17 year old dog has two rx’s and they just got more expensive. if this pooch lives much longer i will be in the poor house.
