Does anybody out there know how I can take the cashews growing in our neighborhood and get them to their edible state?
I’ve done an online search, but can’t find any suggestions.
I don’t mind doing the work, and they’re free for the picking here.
Thanks for any help.

a nicaraguan farmer told me you have to roast them first, but they have to be handled very carefully because they shells are toxic. he told me you had to roast them until the shells turned black, but that stunk up the house, but despite that i did it the way he told me. cracking those suckers was really hard and very messy and i could see why cashews command such a high price. good luck. better to buy the cashews and make a fresco out of the fruit.

Yep, they will burn your skin if not handled properly. Our gardener made us a bag last year, but he roasted them outside in a hole in the ground. Very good though. The fruit is delicious too.

They can even kill….or severely burn someone, trying to do this.
We presently have a new crop that is nearly ready for picking, and like maravilla stated, they make a nice refresco. Or get an experienced local to do it for you, away from your home, as even the ‘smoke’ is toxic, so give it a miss.
We tried it once, but never again!
