scott- what do you know about the gov’t organization IDA? pronounced “eedah,” I have family in tres rios (san diego al monte) and want to buy them a house near oratina/tarcoles but just found out the land is “del IDA” and I get no title until 2008.
1) as risky as it sounds, my inlaws would move in immediately, could that make a difference -IF- in 2008 I have trouble getting the title;i.e. posession is 9/10’s of the law, squatters’ rights my inlaws are ticos.
2)can my attorney make a contract stating that transfer happens as soon as it’s legal (2008); and how often does this take place?
3)i have heard the gov’t. is about to pass a law making the period before transfer (15 yrs) shorter for these gov’t issued properties, have you heard of this and what do you think?
ps I know its risky- but have you EVER heard of this happening successfully? and by the way I’m just trying to get my wifes parents away from all the “piedrerros” in their current neighborhood. It could be worth the risk, thanks for your time—-kmlmck

Sorry but this is way out of my area. Our expertise is primarily for Americans and other responsible expats hoping to buy and develop real estate in Costa Rica.
This 44 year old organization IDA is a rural development organization who’s goal is to help the campesinos… And since they have nothing to do with 99.9% of our VIP Members, I have not taken the time to study it …
Apart from the information that I see on their website, I do not know anything about the mechanics of their process.
