Hi , Does anyone have any experience with CR Tropical Properties, INC
They are putting a gated community of 1 1/4 acers. a bit north of Quepos.near Manuel Antonio beach? We are considering buying but havent been there yet.Please respond if you live there or have heard of them.A couple friends and I have placed deposits on several lots. We are going down next month to look at them. We talked to one person who had already been down and they had good things to say. They said the entry gate was very nicely done. I too would be interested in hearing any information about the company.
I have been talking to them, and have put a deposit down on an ocean view lot. we are going down in May, 18th to check them out. They so far in all our dealingshave seem very professional and above board. i have not heard anything negative. has anyone else. The only thing i heard today from someone in jaco is that parrita because it is flat gets mosquitos. But these lots in phase 2 are 600 feet up, and supposedly have rain forest in back of the property and the Damas perserve in the front. Anyway we are excited to go down and check it out. We have been told there are no more ocean view lots only mountain view. Does anyone out there know the Parrita area that we are talking about? We were down in that area in March but can’t remember parrita.

Parrita is a quaint little town about 45 minutes south of Jaco. Not much going on there but you are close to Quepos and Manuel Antonio.
I’ve always wondered about the pesticide use on the monoculture crops that are grown in Parrita. I’ve heard that they use lots of pesticides to kill the snakes. For me personally, I would never want to live where there was that kind of agriculture that may pollute the water supply, especially if you are down river from it. Has anyone ever investigated what kind of pesticides are used in that area?
thats a good point, I always assumed pesticide use was minimal in C.R. because of the costs. But those are large plantations down there, there is also a really funky looking factory either just past parrita or before…anyone know what that is?
The big monoculture farms use LOTS of pesticides because of the snakes and with the rain there is always run-off, and where does that go? On my first trip to Costa Rica, I went with a girlfriend who had done some research on the beach area, the estuaries, the rivers, and the plantations, and she concluded that there was lots of pesticides being used that could potentially filter into the water supply. Does anyone know where the water comes from down there? Is it a well? Is it far above and away from the plantations? Even the little farmer uses pesticides. My gardener walks around with a big cannister of some kind of Zyklon-B preparation, but he is forbidden to use it on my property or anywhere near my property because I want to be strictly organic. They can use pesticides that the US outlawed, so it’s something to consider.
Yes I often see these guys walking around the road side or on farms spraying god knows what on the ground!
We have put a deposit down on an ocean view lot in the phase2 part. It’s a little scary not seeing it and all first. Is there anyone who has been there and bought a lot? We aren’t going down till June.Thanks for your replies.

I did a lot of research on this about a year or so ago and discovered that Costa Rica uses an ENORMOUS amount of pesticides but, what they did not specifiy in the vast majority of the articles was “who” uses all those pesticides?
The biggest culprits by far are the American multinationals who grow fruit here…

WeLoveCostaRica.comBasically the article talks about a large number 390 declared robberies and assaults associated with drug dealers and drug users. While a particular neigbourhood on the edge of Parrita is identified the article suggests that the problem is affecting the inhabitants of the whole of Parrita. Whether this should be of concern for people contemplating buying property nearby I make no comment and I just want to point it out and correct the image given of Parrita as a “quaint” town. There is a large ammount of poverty, indeed most of the town is built on land liable to flooding (the two go together).
hope that helps.Stomach cancer rates in Costa Rica are second after Japan which has the highest. Things implicated in these numbers are (not in any particular order): sugar, H.Pylori, smoking, alcohol, and. . . pesticide use. I think it only makes sense to check out what is above you and up the road from you. With the rain comes the run-off, and even if you are not using Zyklon-B, your neighbor might be and certainly the big agribiz up the road from you is using it. And then I think it is also prudent to see what used to be grown there — United Fruit was growing bananas in that area and bananas are one of the sprayed crops, next to coffee. How many years does it take for the land to NOT be contaminated by pesticide usage?
