We are looking to rent a car when we come to Costa Rica in June. We contacted renta4x4incostarica, but we need a larger vehicle. Does anyone know anything about Pura Vida Cars. They have larger 4 wheel vehicles at a very reasonable price. Thanks….Janet and Harold

If they offer “full coverage” get all the details on cost and just what it covers. We have rented a larger suv from dollar and sometimes we take the full coverage(then you have nothing to worry about!) but it is quite pricey. You can also rely on your credit card if they offer collision when you reserve and pay for the rental. I have spoken to Visa and they assure me they would pay out quickly if I had an accident and provided all the required documents. However if you have damage to your car that is not covered by the basic insurance that you are required to have, your credit card will be charged for the cost of repairs and you will then seek reimburstment from your credit card company. Also check all the details of the insurance your card provides because there are exclusions including no coverage if an accident occurs on a dirt or gravel road!!! And there are a few of those down here…

We used this Company last February, and, honestly I can’t speak highly enough of their service. If you go to the website there are testimonials you can email to find out more. We are most certainly going to rent from Dean again.

We have been to Costa Rica several times and have been through the insurance thing. I tried the company recommended by Scott, however, we need a larger vehicle because of the amount of luggage that we will be bringing.

Just make sure you look over the vehicle very carefully and notice every existent dent and scratch on paper and how much gas is in the thank. You really do not need a 4 wheel drive. When we come back in June we do not see reason to rent another 4 wheel drive. Highways are bad but manageable.

Charge your rental on a VISA platinum card and the card will pick up the additional insurance so you don’t have to pay for it. It’s a substantial savings.

I rented with them by booking through http://www.centralamerica.com/cr/tran/mapache.htm They’re a travel agency based out of Miami. They’re running some internet special on their site right now. It all was very smooth, pick-up, drop-off, no line at the counter, and when I returned the car after a month during the dry season (car was filthy inside and out w/ lots of mud caked in the wheel well) there were no extra fees.

Their rates were reasonable. They will deliver and pick up your vehicle at no charge. At least from Grecia. Good service and dependable vehicles.
