Good morning.
My name is Marie and I am a Torontonian (actually born in Barrie)who has been living in LA for the past 8 years. I am finally focusing on pursuing my goal of buying property in CR, so I joined this website to jumpstart my research — and lo and behold — within 2 minutes I find what seems to be a great community of fellow CR lovers and Canucks.
Wanda, are you moving to CR permanently? And if so, what part?
I don’t have any plans to move to CR just yet, but I am interested in hearing about all of your experiences, particularly about buying real estate and the pitfalls.
Good luck Wanda, Angela + Family. I look forward to reading about your experiences.
May 5, 2006 at 11:05 am #176317AndrewKeymasterYou have come to the right place “TicaChica” – there are a lot of Canadians in Costa Rica and thankfully, I have quite a few Candian investment clients here too… But, you’re asking very broad questions like “all your experiences” and “buying real estate and the pitfalls.”
It’s very difficult to “discuss” very general topics like that in a forum… I wrote an entire book about buying Costa Rica real estate but it could have been twice as big and still not covered that one topic completely.
May I suggest you choose one aspect to dicuss here in the forum
Scott
PS. Have you actually been to Costa Rica?
May 6, 2006 at 10:50 am #176318wanda*********MemberHi Marie,
Great to hear from you! I’m leaving next month but want to explore CR a bit before I jump into any investments. I’ve been overwhelmed at the kindness of people in CR who have reached out to me through this Forum – both gringos and Costa Ricans. I’ve made new friends and I can’t wait to get on the plane and start this exciting adventure. I haven’t heard from any CR Canucks yet but I’ll stay in-touch and let you know how things go. My e-mail and MSN is resumeswv@hotmail.com just encase you need to get in-touch with me.
Take care Marie and I’ll see you in Costa Rica!!
WandaMay 6, 2006 at 3:25 pm #176319TicaChicaMemberHi Scott.
I just meant that I’m looking forward to reading about everyone’s experiences in the different forums. I’ve just started my research so I don’t have any specific questions yet – a lot of reading to do before I start asking for details. I look forward to reading your book.
I was in CR in 2001 (waaaay too long ago for my liking!) and fell in love immediately. I have been to San Jose, Heredia, Fortuna, Liberia and Playa Samara.
Thanx so much for your reply and this website!
Talk to you soon.
Marie

May 10, 2006 at 12:00 am #176321mr.diMemberhello ticachica,
we are also from TO and “still living here in good old TO”. we are going down in july to spend some time at the property we purchased earlier this year. my father in-law will be flying down next week for two week stay. see the article i posted a while back later on in the forums on properties in guanacaste by grupo mapache –i believe it is forum number 303. hope it helps you. good luck and let me know if you need more info.
mr.diMay 10, 2006 at 7:50 am #176322TicaChicaMemberHi Mr. Di.
Congrats on your property. I read your post and it sounds like, overall, you had a good experience. You’re a little north of the area that I am initially interested in (still doing my research), but it sounds like there is a good community of folk.
I look forward to chatting in the future.
May 30, 2006 at 5:36 am #176323curlyonecurlytwoMemberI am an x-Montreal (left in 1977) Torontonian in process to becoming a Costa Rican. I will be in Costa Rica June 26 to Juy 17th. Am completing documentation for pensionado status. Tying up loose ends over next six months, and hope to be living there, by year end.
Stay at Hotel don Carlos, San Jose first few days then B & B Vidal Tropical. Hired driver guide for 9 of the days, as I explore Central Valley.
There is a Canadian Club in San Jose. No not the drink. A real group of Canucks. Elaine, an ex-Thornhill resident Canuck, in Escazu owns The Beauty Place, great massage therapists, in Esaczu.
Them Canucks are all over the place, as am them Americans, but my heart has a place for the most special people of all, the Costa Ricans.
Connect with me at if you wish.
ONLY individualized hand typed emails. No attachments. No broadcast emails please.
PS: Hi Wanda, Hope you have a great time this trip.
