My wife and I are moving to CR 01/07 to start a new life. I am retired with a modest pension and plan to pursue Pensionado status. We both love the ocean and have made 2 prior trips to CR spending several weeks surfing central Guanacaste area. We have not seen most of CR and want to live incountry a while to experience other areas before we decide where we will settle down. We would like to stay in the Central Valley for a period of time as well as some of the costal regions.

Are there any “house sitting” opportunities or other low cost or no cost options available for temporary housing in CR?

    Regards,
    Dan

I’ve been down there a few times and have never run into that but what about renting a home?
The low cost / no cost option may be hard to come by in CR .
Those opportunities may come after you move and start making connections and friends. K>S>

Thanks for your feedback! I felt the house sitting option would be a long shot but you never know. Renting a home, apartment or even a room in someone’s home are more realistic options I’m sure.

We thought our plan to live in several areas during the “exploration” phase of our relocation might make renting a home or apartment difficult. In Phoenix the norm is a 6-12 month lease. This is not the case in CR?

    Dan,
Check out this website http://www.housecarers.com. I did come across it awhile ago and you can put in a search for Costa Rica. There is currently a house available for 1 month in Oct. Don’t know anything about them, but may be worth a look at!

    Good luck

Check out the Bed and Breakfast Vidal Tropical through this site. They only charge $33 a night for couples ($25 for a single) I reserved 17 days for my stay there, this July. Sound like a hearty breakfast is incuded.

They are warm, inviting, with a sense of humor. Excellent location in Aleujla (I’ll never get the spelling right), not far from the air port. Good for starting place for your explorations of Central Valley.

I am not on commission or related to them in anyway, but after corresponding with them I would choose to make them members of my extended family. Relatives by choice. Not for purpoes of discounted charges, just cause they seem so nice.

    Good luck!
Please be gentle if you email me.

We have a house on 11 acres near San Isidro de el General that we would rent for cheap. You would need to buy beds and other stuff as the house is empty but the area is beautiful and private with wonderful neighbors and a short trip to town. We just purchased the property a few months ago and will not be able to visit again for a long time due to having to work here in the states, etc.
