We are thinking about taking a vacation trip to Costa Rica. There would probably be 3 couples. Because we will be staying in Costa Rica 3-4 weeks, rather than living out of a hotel or B&B room, we would like to rent a furnished 3 bedroom house for this time. As we are all retired, we are flexible as to what months we can travel. During our stay in CR, in all likelihood, we would also like to rent a car for 1-2 day daytrips to see other parts of CR.

Are there any such houses available for rent in the Central Valley area? Does anyone have someone you could recommend that could assist us?

There are very, very, very few fully furnished homes available for very short-term rental.

PS. I do hope to be able to recommend a place by the end of next week but want to check it out first…

Send a message to laterrazagrecia@msn.com. These folks have access to some houses that might meet your needs.

Hi George–I’ve rented 3 different homes in CR thus far. I’ve used these “for rent by owner” websites.
    vrbo.com
    greatrentals.com
My advice is this: Always speak to the owner directly and then operate on the assumption that not everything you’ve been told will turn out the way you thought it would; never, never, never go through a realtor
    Examples of “miscommunications”:
-3 bedrooms could mean 2 “couple-sized” bedrooms and another which is very tiny and contains only a bunk bed set and the washing machine
-air conditioning usually is not “central” and often doesn’t work; your best bet is to stay in a cooler part of the CV (Atenas, Grecia, etc.) and make sure your house has a ceiling fan in all the rooms; you’ll be very comfortable with that
-it is highly likely that if you are in a city water area including gated or other “developed” communities which control the water, you will go without for a couple of days, maybe longer; depends on the backup method used, if any
-be absolutely certain that your house has an ADT alarm system that works and that you know the code if you accidentally set it off
-gated communities are no more secure than ungated; period; don’t be fooled by anything you’re told
There are many other pitfalls but I will say that all of the houses I’ve rented have been charming in their own way and I’ve been able to deal with “inconveniences”.

    Good luck!

    Hello, George,
We may have exactly what you want. However, we are not a B&B or any kind of commercial organization. My husband and I have a 4-bedroom furnished guest house which we have had built for our children and grandchildren to use. We, ourselves, are only in CR for 5 months of the year and the guest house is used less frequently. We do have a caretaker and the house is cleaned once a week so you do not have to worry about mould or other vegetation. We are about 1 hr from the airport in Alajuela and 1.5 hr from the Central Pacific. If you think you might be interested, please e-mail me directly. (anneliseped @ hotmail.com) and I will send you some pictures and more info.
