Hello everyone, We will be flying into Guatemala, spending a week, then driving down to Costa Rica for a 2 to 3 week visit, then driving back to Guatemala. 5 weeks total for our trip. We do not have any resevations or plans except to go on an adventure. Has anyone made this road trip and if so what stops would you recommend along the way? We do not want to rush so possibly a good place to spend a couple of days in Nicaragua? We have spent time in the Jaco area, but want to see other parts of the county. It will be in October and we do not have a 4 wheel drive, but would be willing to rent one if needed to get to certain areas since it will be the rainy season. Thanks

    Donna,

If you have the time, stop in Copan, Honduras. You can visit the Mayan ruins there as well as the Bird Park. Copan is a great little town. Twisted Tanyas has some great food.

You could then take the back way through Santa Rosa de Copan and La Esperanza to Siguatepeque and then down to Tegucigalpa. Conversely, you could cross the border and visit Copan and then return to Guatemala since it is only ten miles from the border.

I would definately recommend a 4wd and two spare tires for that trip. Have fun and let us know how it goes…

    Jerry,
Sounds like you know that area well. Will take you up on your advice on a stop in Copan. We will not have a 4 wheel drive, just a small pickup, with spare tires. The fun is in the challenge. Will definetly check out the ruins and Twisted Tanyas while there. Thanks,
    Donna

    Donna,
I have been there quite a few times. As part of our mission work, we sponsor a conference there for NGO’s every October(www.projecthonduras.com). Have a great time and enjoy your adventure. Jerry
