Has anyone happened to dine at the Corteza Amarilla? When we were in San Jose in September, we ate dinner there one night on the recommendation of our taxi driver. Oh my gosh! It was something else. The food was just out of this world, and dessert was to die for. We had to wait about 30 minutes for dessert…and we were beginning to wonder if they had to go out and milk the cows to make the ice cream…when I saw two waitresses headed to our table with these gorgeous pieces of art work. We hated to eat them they were so beautiful. Something like you’d see at a food competition!
The place itself is just amazing. There were many trees around the place, from which the restaurant/Inn takes it’s name. The building is an elegant older home that a passed dignitary lived at one time, with the restaurant below and Inn above. Besides all his artwork hanging throughout the building, the creative owner also made the dining tables with stained glass tops and all the stained glass lighting fixtures over the tables. It all added to the exotic flavor of the place.
There are incredible gardens with a gurgling fountain nearby to sooth you while you eat. The music we found particularly interesting. It was like soft, jungle, Brazilian music with great rhythms and beats, but soft and sexy. What a wonderful evening we had at this place. I wanted to pass this little tidbit of information along to anyone who’s looking for a special place to eat for an anniversary, or just for good food. A little pricey for Costa Rica, but well worth every cent. Since we had just gotten married that day, it was a perfect way to celebrate.

I have enjoyed a couple of excellent meals at this restaurant/small hotel but as you point out it is very much “A little pricey for Costa Rica.” But hey! You only get married once… Right? 🙂
