Hi my name is gareth aged 20 from the U.K.
Me and my girlfriend have decided to go work during the summer in the beuatifull place that is Costa Rica. We plan to go at the start of june upto the end of september.
This is my first point of contact to people who actually know the country and hopefully can give me some information or direct me to websites/people who can help me further.
All im after at the present time is just some general information on how easy/hard it is to get work during this time? What are the regions i should be thinking of going to? How expensive it is e.g. beer/food? are there any companys out there that can give you a full working package??
ANY information at this time will be very grateful.
kind regards

I’m from the UK too and would ask you to remember that the government of Costa Rica decided some time ago that foreigners cannot just step off the plane in Costa Rica as a tourist and try to find work for four months. That’s ILLEGAL!
To work here legally you would have to have the correct immigration status which would A: Take a very long time and B: Probably cost you more money than you would make in four months and lastly, unless you are affiliated with some officially approved part-time program, that would not be possible for a part-time position.
Of course there are people that work here illegally but if you are caught, you could face some seriously embarassing moments he said diplomatically.
That’s the bad news, the good news is that the beer is very, very cheap here compared to the UK.

What a magnificent and rewarding idea!
Do you know if they can help with accommodation for people who wish to volunteer and work there for free?
Do they have articles that we could feature on this site to try and drum up some donations for them? (Can’t promise anything but we can try…)

In regards to not being able to work over in costa rica, surely there are some places that take on casual staff, not every place is going to go completly by the book, so to speak!
I heard that there are surf bars someplace over there, is this true??
Thank you for the link to the volunteer program, its been added as a bookmark, are there any over volunteer programs that people no about??
If work is not an option and volunteering seems to be the way forward, then can someone give me a rough idea of how much money is needed for 3 months over there (not including flights).
sorry for asking so many questions just trying to gather as much information as i can!
kind regards
