Just a further point on the use of the term Third World;
This term is still used but I agree with other posters here that there are better sounding terms. Here is a Wickopedia site regarding the matter. Note the map indicating Costa Rica as Third World. Also note that Cuba is listed on the second map as sitting higher than Costa Rica in Human Development status, yet is listed as 4th world status on the first map…

I think you’ll find that today’s politically correct term is ‘LDC or Less Developed Country”

I am looking at a map published by the United Nations and It shows Costa Rica as highly developed. The only two other countries with such a designation in the Americas are Canada and the USA.

Costa Rica is ranked above the United States for Health Care. Go fogure!
It figures because far more of the population is covered by the health care system, infant mortality is lower, and longevity is greater (in Costa Rica, that is).
