    Hi Folks,
Does anyone have experience with a good large appliance repair person? I have a Frigidaire Dryer that stopped working (possibly a bad timer) and need it fixed.

Failing that, anyone know of a place selling parts for Frigidaire?

I’ve searched the CR Yellow Pages and have basically come up blank.

    Thanks,
    J

I will ask my friend Margie to post something about this, she knows quite a bit about appliances in Costa Rica.

There are at least four shops that sell nothing but appliance parts in Condominios Las Americas on Avenida Segunda in San Jose across the street from Banco de Costa Rica.

Many homes in CR are not built with an extraction duct leading outdoors. The dryers have a thermal fuse that when overheated fails. Symptoms of this happening would be that the dryer spins and works as it should but doesn’t produce any heat. It’s fairly simple to check with meter. I’ve had it fail twice on my Whirlpool dryer for lack of ventilation. When replacing the thermal fuse, they recommend also changing the thermostat at the same time. In my model, both of these come in the same package and aren’t sold separately.

If you live west of San Jose, there’s a very good repair guy named Melvin,
289-9565 or 398-4614, in Escazu. If you need a new refrigerator (or stove,
washer, dryer, etc.), then contact me about the used appliances my business
partner and I bring in from the US. We warranty parts and service for six
months, and we will deliver to anywhere in Costa Rica. Margie

Thanks for recommending Melvin. He came by the house Monday and had my dryer up and running within 15 minutes after changing the thermostat and thermo fuse. This guy certainly has some skill. I don’t say it often, but I was impressed.
