Greetings friends: This is my first time on this site and I must say that I am pleased that there are so many of you that are passionate about life. I will be making my second trip to CR this X-mas. I found this site and was amazed at the wealth of info to be found. I didn’t expect to find a political arguement going on. The politics of fear, along with the falling $ in the USA are my reasons for wanting out. I lived up in Alaska for 14 years. It also has become a right wing nut house. (bridge to Nowhere). When I moved there in the early 70’s everyone helped everyone else, they had to, it’s a rough country. Now, in Alaska, just like the lower 48, it’s every man, or woman, for themselves. I hate that! Everybody is so concerned with getting the biggest piece of cake they can, they even eat the candles. I know that this site will help me get a little piece of paridise in CR. I also promise to help anyone who needs my help. Come to think of it, that’s exactly why I am at peace with myself. I guess that you probably won’t hear from me on this site again, (unless you have a nice piece of land for sale) because I am really tired of politics. I read this little blip the other day on a progressive web site. Some whitehouse aid was speaking to the press and he said this. “Truth is what we say it is. Your job is to report about what we say. You will always just be a reporter of history. We will make the history.” Sick huh? Anyway, I’m tired of all the lies and misinformation. The robber barons have stolen the farm and everything that goes with it. I just want to read my book and watch the sun set.

But within this board, there are many more threads than sales and politics. It is a gold mine of info, and I trust you will find what you need… Good Luck !
Hasta Luego JoNovember 12, 2007 at 10:29 am #187947spriteMemberBoy, Mittizzi, you have hit the nail spot on. I am in the same frame of mind as you and, look where I am heading. I fell in love with Costa Rica only a short while ago, about a year and a half, and like anyone suffering from love, I am obsessing a bit about my new love. You will also find a few right wingers here and there in CR, but I suspect they are a minority and, in any case, one of the great things about leaving the USA is leaving the politics behind as well. In fact, we aren’t really permitted to participate in politics in CR and that suits me fine.
November 12, 2007 at 1:10 pm #187948maravillaMemberHey, Mittizzi, I used to live in Alaska too, and I even worked for that premier right-wing nutjob Ted Stevens, famed for the Bridge to Nowhere! Quite honestly, it may have been one of the worst places in the world I have ever lived. Don’t plan on EVER going back even though my parents were members of the pioneer club, etc. Having said that, your quote about the history makers chimes right in with this article that appeared in AM Costa Rica:
“The major problem with the United States is that the citizens have succumbed to apathy and allowed their government to pass laws that have literally bankrupted and imprisoned them (Oops, no you can not file for bankruptcy any longer as the government passed laws against it. One in every 36 U.S. citizens is now in some form of civil incarceration). Increasingly, that same apathy is occurring here as the population is being disenfranchised by their government’s lack of action to correct these problems (only 26 percent of legal voters participated in the last presidential election).
The United States press is entirely at fault for not reporting what their government is doing. If you do not believe me, go to: http://www.projectcensored.org/censored_2008/. Of course since virtually all major U. S. media outlets, radio and television, are owned by only eight corporations, and those corporations are dictating to the government what laws are passed for the protection of their profits, you begin to understand why the press is hamstrung to get the truth published.”
I’ve had it with politics as well. When I’m in Costa Rica, I never see the TV or newspapers, rarely listen to the radio even, and after a few weeks, a calm comes over me that is impossible to have in the STates because we are constantly bombarded with negativity and propaganda. All I care about now is watching my coffee trees grow and checking which orchid is putting up a new stem.
November 12, 2007 at 2:12 pm #187949mittizziMemberYour right! I’m back already. I have a good friend in Kona Hi. that has a coffee farm. It is really something else. I’ve thought about doing coffee in CR myself! If you know someone that is interested in a sale or a partner let me know.
One more thing about politics, no really, just one…The very worst thing about the situation in the US is “Greed”. But I digress…. I can hardly wait to get back to my new homeland Costa Rica.November 12, 2007 at 6:10 pm #187950rf2crParticipantmittizzi –
This forum is a lot more that politics, people are incrediably helpful and willingly give of their time and experiences to help with those many questions that come up when you are considering relocating. You can learn a lot by going back and reading all the previous posts, there are so many topics covered that will help you understand more of what life in CR is like and what it can take to get there.
November 12, 2007 at 6:40 pm #187951mittizziMemberI agree with you 100% in fact I have been doing just that. You happen to know anything about Nosara area? If you know someone give me a post will you? Once again I feel blessed to have found this site and will continue to search for that little bit of CR with my name on it.

Sorry, Nosora is an area we didn’t research, we settled on property around Lake Arenal to live. Exploring the Nosora area is something we plan to do once we are living there. I’m sure you will hear from someone who can be more help.
