I am moving to Costa Rica in March and would like to have a bank account in place in advance — anyone know if this can be done? My Spanish is stiff “iffy” so transaction would need to be in English at this point.

One of the two partners who sold me my property last year helped me set up my bank account later on. Apparently you are supposed to have an address or electric bill in order to do this. I do not have either since my property has no home on it yet an I am still living in Miami. But he is friends with the bank manager so I was accommodated. There are probably other ways to do this but if you know someone there, perhaps they could help you in the same manner.

We had no problem, we are STILL not there but have had an account over a year now. Our estate agents just provided us will letters saying that we were known to them and we were able to open both checking and savings accounts in our names.

Thanks – I’ll contact the attorney who helped us with the closing.Sounds like that may work.

Martha Barnard works with a well known/respected & conscious law firm in CR & she can help you do ALL & LOTS MORE of that BEFORE you arrive. CostaRicaYall@yahoo.com / (506) 357-9264

Opening a bank account for someone without residency CAN be challenging for MOST people (especially without a “Letter of Introduction”) but I’ve found Walter or Veronica at Banco Cuscatlan in Escazu WILL help you out (while you’re IN CR though) if you have 3 months worth of bank statements, an original phone, power, water, cable type bill (not necessary to be in your name) with what will be the address you’re giving them (to my knowledge, they don’t mail anything to you), your original passport & some sort of intro from someone (tell them all Vicki referred you) (506) 228-5806 / vjimenez@CuscatlanCR.com

Let me know if you need any help – TheFountainsGuesthouseEscazu@ gmail. com (all run together)
