Does anyone know where to purchase quality mattresses in the San Jose area?

By the way Jeff, Mattresses can be made to any size/depth/etc in CR and I have even found size differences between what we typically consider king, queen or single sizes in some stores–This flexibility can be great and it can also mean your current linens might not quite fit so I suggest you measure the size of the mattress you’re looking to replace and then take the measuring tape with you when you go purchase your new mattress…Pura Vida!

Pricesmart in Escazu has Sealy mattresses made in Mexico. I’ve been sleeping better since I purchased a new one there several weeks ago. And believe it or not, because its got that “pillow top” thick surface, I get up less in the middle of the night to visit el bano.

Quick question: Is anyone aware of any place in CR that sells “Select Comfort” mattresses?
    Thank you.

Nice try, Kelvin, but no one in Costa Rica sells Select Comfort mattresses. I know this because I’ve lately been in touch with their customer service folks who were very helpful.

You could have one shipped in. The mattress (not including the foundation) is reasonably lightweight. We own aSelect Comfort mattress and foundation set and a second mattress. Their foundation adds nothing to the package except elevation from the floor or bed slats. In our main house, we sleep on our Select Comfort mattress directly on the supporting slats and it’s perfectly comfortable.

(For the uninitiated: Select Comfort mattresses have air chambers and a compressor that allow you to vary the firmness. They’re wonderful.)

Thanks for the info David. I will plan on shipping one when I move to CR next August.
