I have been dating a Colombian woman for 5 years running.
I don’t want to retire in Colombia and I feel as though Costa Rica is a good fit.
I plan to visit with her in the summer and plan to rent for a few months to be absolutely certain that we both feel the same about permanently living here. I want to marry her in Costa Rica versus marrying in respective countries, do you see any problems from my decision.
Must be exhausting but I am delighted to hear that you both have a passion for running 🙂
I am guessing here and do not know what concerns you might have but would it not be a good idea to look at the marriage laws in both countries and see how they differ?
When it comes to making a decision as to where the best place is to live, does it really matter in which country you were married?
Good luck!

If one of you lives in CR already, getting married there makes some legal sense. My niece married her Colombian fiance in CR rather than in the US (where he lived and she met him) because this actually made it easier for the whole CR residency paperwork he would need to complete, but if you both live abroad and wish to settle in CR, where you marry shouldn’t be an issue. You just need to have your marriage license authenticated by the CR Consulate where you live. It would also be a good idea to call them to get information that may be relevant to this…Oh, if it’s about the romance of it all, there are some hotels in CR that will arrange for your wedding while you’re there… Congratulations, no matter where you choose to tie the knot…
Ucan- Dating for only 5 years and wanting to get married and move to a foreign country. Why are you rushing into this sooo fast. Marriage is one thing and living in CR is another. Despacio–take your time, and try living with her for a couple of years in CR before you pull the trigger. I have been dating a colombiana for 3 years “walking”( I have got to save my energy), and I am just starting to get to know her. Don’t bite off more than you can chew at one time. Buena suerte
