My name is XXX and I am a producer on a television show HOUSE HUNTERS, which airs in the United States (and throughout the world) on the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV). HOUSE HUNTERS, currently in its 8th year, is a 1/2 hour documentary style television program that follows a home buyer as a real estate agent helps them search for a home and make a purchase.
We are now doing an international version and we are looking for home buyers who would like to participate. If you are buying a property in Costa Rica (or you’re a realtor) and you’re interested in learning more about participating in the show, please feel free to contact me at: EMAIL ADDRESS DELETED
Best of luck with your move!

WeLoveCostaRica.comApril 17, 2008 at 12:16 am #190344MarjonnekeMemberHi there. My husband and I are on our way to Costa Rica to look at properties and do some research (leaving Apr 26). We’re a little younger than most retirees (50 & 51). Likely we’ll start working here in Canada part time and spent the winters in another warmer country – hopefully Costa Rica. We’ve done a lot of research and we’re looking forward to seeing if the country is as wonserful as everyone says it is! But I’m sure there’ll be challenges – which we’re up for.
By the way – I’m also a TV producer!Marjonneke (Not sure if I should put my contact info on here on not).
April 17, 2008 at 12:25 am #190345AndrewKeymasterMy past experiences with all of the US & British TV/magazine/newsletter companies that have contacted me so far has been nothing short of DISGUSTING so forgive me if I am not impressed by their ‘we’ll-make-a-celebrity-of-you’ sales pitch.
I rarely watch TV but every time I do see it, I am amazed or should I say stunned at what some people call ‘entertainment’ now…
Their job is to sell and they have no desire to interview impartial, objective and serious experts in any field who could genuinely help their viewers, but will gladly feature whichever scumbag has the necessary monies to pay them their outrageous fees for their airtime.
Having said that, I am not criticizing you Marjonneke and wish you all the best in your research and possible move to Costa Rica.

WeLoveCostaRica.comApril 17, 2008 at 9:36 am #190346*LotusMemberI’m with you Scott on the whole tv/entertainment biz. I don’t watch a lot of the stuff either but definitely more than you do, house hunters is a pretty harmless show though. It is just a condensed version of a broker going around with two buyers looking for a new home. They really don’t promote the brokers or there company’s I think a small mention thanking them in the credits. It can be entertaining if you have an interest in real estate, although it can also be a bit boring especially when they are searching for a ranch house in Texas (boy Texas real estate is cheap by the way!). It’s a bit more interesting when it is international and they are “hunting” for a home in Europe or south/central America. I have seen two shows shot in Costa Rica already. All in all pretty harmless viewing with mostly fluff commentary.

April 18, 2008 at 11:53 am #190348kellyactMemberI agree TV has gotten pretty bad and quite shocking! I actually like HGTV. It’s a pretty good channel and I’ve seen this show. They usually look at and compare 3 homes in same area around same prices. Yes, sometimes the areas are boring but it’s interesting to see what you get for your money in different parts of the US.
I haven’t seen any of the international ones though.
Anyway, with all the trash on TV these days I have to admit I am a fan of this channel, it’s pretty good.
Just thought I would add my two cents. ThanksApril 18, 2008 at 1:51 pm #190349ocasocerroMemberFor those of you bashing TV in general (which is in many cases deserved) may have never seen House Hunters International. We watch it all the time. Great show. Love it when they show Costa Rica, which from my experience was twice so far. We want more!
Give the lady a break.
April 18, 2008 at 2:30 pm #190350AndrewKeymasterOK
I’ll be generous… But let’s do it the same way shall we?
They would probably like to charge me $10,000 – $50,000 to access their viewers for about 30 seconds and they’ll have a minimum of what 20 slots on their show for a total of US$200,000 – $1,000,000 in very rough numbers…
Make sense?
I’ll make the exact same offer except with a huge discount for ten times as much time…
She can access our Discussion Forum and our website for 30 minutes to get the raw material and the content that she needs (that has taken me over five years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to build) to make $1,000,000 per show and she only has to pay me US$50,000
How does that sound?
Please let me know if that’s OK and we’ll set up the credit card system to accept payment.

WeLoveCostaRica.comApril 18, 2008 at 3:47 pm #190351jneimanMemberHouse Hunters International is a good show. It’s very interesting to watch. If you want people to check out Costa Rica to live (which you do since you provide real estate and information), then its probably a bonus for you. And if you get a special thanks to “Scott Oliver from http://www.welovecostarica.com”, then you’ll get more exposure.
Your cynicism seems off the scale here.
April 18, 2008 at 5:36 pm #190352*LotusMemberI don’t think the HGTV show works that way with “House Hunters” they really don’t mention the broker at all..
April 20, 2008 at 6:01 pm #190353lceideMemberThis is a great show. They film all over. I don’t think they charge you…they rarely say anything more than mention the Realtor’s name-they are only looking for content. It would be a very positive exposure.
April 21, 2008 at 1:43 am #190354soflodougMemberNobody is making a million dollars from this website in a tv show timeframe, please.
House hunters is an interesting show and lol they might even give you some free exposure but whose thinking. Maybe you would even sell some of your concrete. Wait lets consult with ice maybe thay can monopolize the show. Just food for thought.

Episode Guest: Barry Ashworth
HGTV AIR TIMES: April 28, 2008 8:30 AM ET/PT, June 23, 2008 10:30 PM ET/PT, June 24, 2008 2:30 AM ET/PT
Escape to Costa Rica
Daniel McQueen and Herbert Landeverde love their 1930s Spanish-style home in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, but Daniel, a busy attorney, and Herbert, an entertainment industry professional, are in desperate need of a break from their hectic schedules. They are searching for the perfect tropical getaway, and what better place to buy a vacation home than Landeverde’s native country of Costa Rica? They have narrowed their home search to the San Jose suburb of Santa Ana because of its central location and proximity to both the mountains and the coast. With a budget of $150,000 and the help of experienced real estate agent Barry Ashworth, they set out to search for their ideal vacation home.
With a budget of $150K for a vacation home in Santa Ana, I don’t think this episode will take too long.
I don’t know much about House Hunters International, but I’ve known honest Barry Ashworth for over 15 years and I seriously doubt that he paid a fee to participate. -
