Does anyone out there have the real info on the present state of internet bandwidth available in Nosara, the costs involved, and any upgrades planned for the near future? I have received varying information from area “realtors”, and would appreciate real world info from anyone with no commercial intent. Fred
To add to postalx, has anyone heard of HughesNet coming to the area anytime soon, specifically Montezuma? We live 1-hour north of Seattle and recently got HughesNet since there is nothing else available out here in the “sticks” but dial-up. As a future resident and business owner in CR, fast internet access to me means something faster than DSL.
Is your internet service supplied by ICE?
I’m told that there is dial-up available currently from ICE, and that some folks (with deeper pockets than my own) pay $300/month for satellite. Surely, there are other options in the works! Fred
Fred:
This is the person that can find out any ICE realted information in Costa Rica. She is the communications manager for ICE throughout CR. She communicates in Spanish and English.

Also, if you are in Nicoya, you can go to the ICE office and meet with the manager in charge of what ICE calls “Planification”. This is the department that does the planning to install the internet and phone lines in your area.
Hope this helps.

I am not sure there is anything in CR that is faster than DSL. Possibly faster than DHL though.

Senora or senorita Aurora? Nice rhyme! Fred
Recieved a nice reply from those friendly folks at ICE. They anticipate wiring Nosara in the 3rd quarter of 2008 w/ DSL copper. Package pricing for homes from $28-$62 per month (depending on bandwidth desired)and businesses from $80-$300. Had to laugh, tho: You can save a whole dollar / month by supplying your own modem! Such a deal! Fred
