I am hoping that someone can help me identify a particular frog we came across in Costa Rica. One night we were awoken by a very loud croaking noise. It was so loud and piercing that we immediately scrambled to find what it could be so that we could make it stop. We searched the house for the source of the noise thinking it may have been a faulty appliance going on the blink. I mean we were searching high and low and just couldn’t find what was making this noise that sounded like a pack of geese. Finally out by the pool we saw 2 tiny brown (no other colour was apparent) frogs perched on the side and my gosh – that was what was making the noise! We had to rub our eyes and make sure we weren’t still sleeping because how on earth could such a tiny creature make such a huge disturbance? I have checked the internet several times when time permits to see if I can figure out what kind of frog these are. Can anyone help me figure this out? I am particularly concerned to know if these are poisonous creatures.
I don’t know what they are but I listened to them all night long last night. They are loud little boogers aren’t they. They are not poisonous – the kids play with them all the time here. They actually remind me more of North American Toads than frogs but with their webbed feet I’m with you – they are frogs.
