U.S. company, BeamOne moved to Costa Rica to provide the sterilization of medical supplies. The company is located in a $5-million plant in El Coyol, Alajuela, close to Juan Santamaria International Airport. This is the first BeamOne plant outside the United States; it has three others located in California, Colorado and Ohio. Thanks to this facility, medical supply firms operating in Costa Rica will no longer need to ship their products to Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic for sterilization, as is now the case.
Another U.S. firm, Emerson, with operations in 150 countries, began operating its first engineering and design center in Latin America at a new facility in Heredia. Emerson provides engineering services as well as software and hardware solutions for the automotive, pharmaceutical, beverage and food industries currently operating in Costa Rica.
It’s starting to sound more and more like the US with each passing day. More jobs for Ticos though, so that’s a good thing.
