I just read the article on homeschooling in Costa Rica on this web site by Roslyn Tyrell and thought it very informative. However, I couldn’t get the links to work, not could I contact the home school message board email address. I would love to contact the author of the article and find out more. Roslyn, are you out there?
I live in Atenas, have been here for 3 years, and I have a 13 year old son who is here with me. So if there are others who are attempting to homeschool in CR, especially with teens, I would love to here from you. This forum seems a good place to start.

I will email Roslyn for you and ask her for up to date links and post them here when she replies.

Just saw the thread and thought I’d poke my head above the parapet quickly… great site by the way!!
We’re hoping to retire to CR next year from the UK (early retirement to get away from.. well all things British really lol) and home educate our 11 year old daughter as we have done since her birth. I have been told it is actually illegal in CR but that no-one worries about expats and wondered if anyone out there has any more info. please?
We’re coming to CR on 5th October for 2 weeks on a fact finding mission and can’t wait to get there!
Thanks,

My wife (Margie) and I homeschooled all 4 of our children across 3 countries and numerous states. Two are now in college, the eldest graduated and the youngest 13 (daughter) is currently registered with the State of Florida Virtual School Program. Our relocation was halted when my wife was diagnosed with cancer last year. Sadly we lost her a month ago. Once we gather ourselves and count our blessings we hope to honor her dream and continue our mission. Granted I’m a bit concerned about tackling the task on my own. She was the brains of the family, I’m more of an idea man…
Any who… We had success homeschooling through middle school then opting for traditional school after 8th or 9th… This might change, they are each unique. But that is the plan for now…
What program are you using? Are you able to keep your son interested?
Mine is at the age when I’ve started to bore her (I can’t blame her). Even though, I’ve had all 4 pass their PADI Scuba certification, we sail regularly and hyperspace between Texas, Florida and CR. Still it’s no substitute for meeting friends and texting… It would be great to network with others, share resources, stories, etc..Cheers,
