Can anyone recommend some hotels in La Fortuna that would have a good view of the volcano from the room?
ThanksOctober 11, 2008 at 11:43 pm #192933terrycookMemberHi…I travel on the cheap and I stayed at Hotel Dorothy…it has a good view of the volcano and is extremely reasonable…clean and friendly and safe..

We had a great time and all went well until the very last morning when the water stopped while I was standing in the shower completely covered in soap suds and had a head full of shampoo. We had to finish off by putting towels around us and walking down to the showers by the swimming pool which still had water…

The best view of the volcano is from a place called Linda Vista Del Norte. There is a horrible stretch of road with holes and gravel at the foot of the west side of Arenal volcano but the view is simply superb and worth watever discomforts encountered. They bus in guests from other hotels just to have dinner at the steak house so they can get the best view of the fire works.

The food in the restaurant is delicious and the steak is yummy, plus it is close to La Fortuna. If you stay in room 16, you will have views of the lake on one side, and the volcano on the other.

The hotel is made up of separate buildings, with each having 2 separate rooms. This setup allows for every room to have a great view of the volcano. The entire hotel is very clean and well maintained, and the service is great. The only down-side is the resturant is a little pricy, but the food is outstanding. – They do have a website if you want to check it out. Enjoy your trip.

That is on the other side of Arenal, not the La Fortuna side and it is elevated and further away from town and all the other hotels so that if you want seclusion and peace and quiet amongst an incredible setting with views that will knock your socks off then I would highly recommned. Cost I believe is around $200 p/night:

For nature and hikes and the closest views of the volcano, you just can’t beat the Observatory Lodge its in the park. Its cost about $135 a night for a standard room, there is hiking on site, horseback riding but no hot springs. On a clear night, your have one of the best views possible. They also give you a complimentary guided hike to a old Lava flow etc. you also are walking distance to Cerro chato (a really nice hike to the top), this also is free from the observatory. If you are a hiker thats $10 per person you will save per hike. The rooms are standard but are very clean and quiet, the on site restaurant and bar are pretty good but a little expensive. The road to reach the observatory is some what rough and while you don’t need a 4 wheel drive a high clearance auto would be nice
