Is anybody as fed up as I am with amcostarica? It seem that every time I read the papser it gets more contradictory. On one hand, the editor writes to come to CR and support his advertiser. On the other hand, he lets his contributors openly declare on the front page that “Costa Rica is dangerous.” Who is this guy and is he a serious newspaper editor or just having his jollies at the expense of people who are trying to make a living here.
Every issue of his paper reports a crime. Do you know if he has been robbed or something. Does he have a personal axe to grind? They are against prostitution and real estate speculation, but they seem to promote drinking and gambling. Okay let me get this straight, get a drinking problem and a gambling habit, but dont risk your money on real estae and occasional sex (do people develop sex habits?).
It all seems hypocritical. I guess people advertise with them because they are the only game in town, but I wouldn’t. Who do they think they are, and why are they trying to impose their values on Costa Rica. Its more of the “Americans know best” stuff. I’m sick of the negativity. Does anybody know he editors motives or anything about him. I think the paper is pompous, sophomoric and does Costa Rica a disservice. Inside Costa Rica could capitalize on amcr poor effort if they would have some weekly columnist like Jo Stuart.
I think forigners are ready for an alternative.
I got into a very protracted email argument with Jay over an article he published quoting some idiot who said he didn’t vote for Obama because he was a Muslim. I asked him why, of all the reasons people may have for NOT voting for BO, did he choose to quote a complete moron who didn’t vote based on a LIE! I told him then I was sick of his rag and the agenda he pushes. And sometimes the grammar and spelling is atrocious. Very amateurish. I always forget to read the TT so AM CR comes to my inbox but I don’t always read it; I just skim the headlines in the email.
The article that I liked the most that shows how pathetic AMCostaRica.com has become was the one written in late October by the Brooklyn woman Elyssa Pachico about her visit to an acupuncturist.
Here’s a few key quotes from that article that gives you insight into the infantile little mind of one of their journalists.

“But when my beloved editor at A.M. Costa Rica approached me with the chance to get a free acupuncture session from a local practitioner, I did what any broke college graduate working in the dying medium of journalism would do: I said I’d try anything once.
I show up to my appointment late.
My jaw opens. I doubt that my tampon is showing, so my only other conclusion is that Mc Donald definitely knows a little something about this acupuncture business.
He pronounces me as young and healthy. “I’d give anything for a young, healthy body again,” he says. “I’d even take yours, menstruating and all!”
I give my best fake smile. The number of times men have told me that, you can’t imagine.
When the pins are finally removed and I get up and walk around the office, I am surprised at how refreshed I feel. It’s a sensation more usually experienced when I wake up from a 10-hour nap after pulling two all-nighters in a row.”

Ain’t she sweet?
She’s just a charmer happy to admit she’s broke, obviously has little hope for her profession, she’s late, happy to talk about her tampons, she’s accustomed to giving people fake smiles and staying out all night long doing God knows what with numerous men.
Now don’t you have a great deal of respect for her and her professional writing skills? And the talent of the Editor in hiring her to begin with?
And doesn’t she fit right in with the kinds of readers that probably read that rag? You know people like us in this Forum, who have grandkids her age? But thankfully my grand daughter would never speak or and behave like her.
When I wrote Jay I also told him that was the most pathetic piece of journalism I had ever read and that adding all the tampon stuff was not only stupid, but show a complete lack of breeding and class. It was a pathetic article, and she is the same pathetic journalist who wrote the article about Obama being a muslim, which was what started my entire verbal rampage.
You folks sound like veterans in the area of media consumption related to CR. Do you have an online resource you DO recommend as accurate and timely?
