Does anyone have any experience with this type of move/immigration to CR? Example, person has US naturalization papers but a Mexican birth cert. Getting mixed msgs. on what is required (as a pensionado)in way of authenticated documents? Mexican consulate was clueless and no help.
Any Costa Rican attorney who practices immigration law should be able to help you. If you’re living in the U.S. right now, you might try contacting your nearest Costa Rican Consulate.
Thanks David, we have been in touch with a CR attorney and he was very helpful. Problem is we are getting mixed msgs. Some say need certified naturalization doc and authenticated birth cert. and the CR consulate was not clear on that. RE: Mexican birth cert.- Mexican counsulate knows nothing about authenticating the birth cert. but offered to supply a copy (and we have the original so no need) We will have to go to Tijuana (counsulate)in person to get answers.
Your documents will need to be certified copies that the Costa Rican embassy can accept and then have translated into Spanish. In the U.S. most of these things can be handled by mail. Mexico is a different story.
Documents you used for your U.S. citizenship and passport should meet the requirements. If you don’t have a passport the documentation for that will be a start. This requires an authenticated (usually embossed or stamped) birth certificate.
