I love going to the movies, my wife and normally go a couple of times a week so we would prefer to live somewhere close to where they play the latest movies.
Where are the best movie theaters? And do they have movies in ENglish?
Is it easy to rent movies in ENglish?
there are lots of video rental places in CR and most have first run — often pirated — movies in English with spanish subtitles. there is a place near where i live that rents vids for C500 each — about $1.00. but then. . . i discovered online streaming from Chile of first run movies so i stopped renting them and just get them online now.
I get 100% of my in home entertainment on line with my computer. This is becoming the preferred way. I just read a report which shows a drop in the number of homes with TV’s in them. This is the first time this has happened since TV’s were invented. Progress. Not only can I watch what I want WHEN I want, but I now avoid the brainwashing drivel from corporate media and have discovered a world of alternative news sources.
My husband and I also love going to the movies. Here is what we have discovered: Cinemark theaters at the Multi-Plaza Mall in Escazu has 14 theaters and usually run between 6-8 films at a time. Most movies made in the U.S. play in the original English with Spanish subtitles. You can Google “Cinemark” and find their home page and then look at the movies being played at their various theaters, and times. Movies usually arrive with a month or so of their release in the U.S. and sometimes, simultaneously.
Cost of tickets is around $4.00 with 3-D movies slightly higher. Here’s something interesting: when you purchase your tickets you are allowed to pick your seats on the computer for assigned seats. Sort of neat but sure can hold up the line when lots of people are waiting. We usually go to the lunchtime matinees.
The food at the concession is pretty much the same as anywhere. We like the MultiPlaza Cinemark because so many good restaurants are nearby.
We’re not much for going to the movies, but I can report that outside Grecia, at the Fabrica mall, there’s a modern (digital, I think) theater with at least two auditoriums. And the new Grecia Mall also has a multi-auditorium theater. Both get first-run movies and both show in English as well as Spanish.
