Is it really true that Costa Rica is ecologically sensitive? Or will this small country be ravaged by people wanting to live the good life at any cost to the environment? :roll:How does one preserve as much of the environment as possible???It is my firm belief that destruction of forests, plants even to a small extent will irrevocably cause unwelcome results.:?::?:

The government of Costa Rica pays serious lip service to the concept of going green, actually having as a national goal to achieve the lowest carbon footprint imaginable (like, they’re shooting for zero). Also, serious effort is made to try to stop/control/eliminate the deforestation process (although, again there is an element of lip service paid to this effort as well), and encouragement is given to reforestation efforts.

ICE has provided in the past, free native seedlings for reforestation, as jdocop mentions. These seedlings may be 4′ tall in some instances (if left over from the previous year) or 6″. This year, they may put a price on the seedlings.
We have planted over 13,000 of these ‘trees’. Of course, the cost of labour, fertilizing, prep work raises the cost substantially and ICE does indeed stop by to check that they have been planted where you say they will be and give you their recommendations for future care.

Betty, Costa Rica has a well-deserved reputation for its environmental sensitivity. The government has designated about a quarter of the country as protected areas (parks, refuges, etc). The problem is that, as with so many other things, the government does not have the resources to actually police those areas. So illegal poaching, logging, dumping, etc persist.
