Don’t like to say that: “I’ve told you so for about 8 years” but ….
The tourism minister Wilhelm von Breymann has ruled out the possibility of building a new airport, arguing that the current one has sufficient capacity and there is a more urgent need for improving and expanding the one in Liberia.
Spanish speakers can see the article at:

No real surprise there! Now if we can kill off the “Disney is coming to CR” rumor people, including a couple of real estate agents I’ve dealt with, keep bringing back to life! I laugh every time I hear it…

April 20, 2015 at 4:40 am #200112orcas0606ParticipantI have to agree with you that the new airport whether it is in Orotina or Palmar Sur will not happen BUT not because Wilhelm von Breymann says so, but just maybe because the money is in San Jose.
I know that he is a “ministro” but I’m not even sure that the boss of ICT is really a minister. I don’ know if he can rule out anything.
I would like to know just what a wanker is? Sounds like something you should see a doctor for. (I know, dangling prep.)………I know that my great granny who was from Stronsay never used that word. Must be a Brit saying. Certainly not Norn.

dangling prep ……I guess one COULD consider those as synonyms……
Or would “dangling participle” be more correct?

May 13, 2015 at 9:46 pm #200115AndrewKeymasterThe geniuses over at La Republica newspaper published an article on the 11th May entitled: Es tiempo de planificar aeropuerto de Orotina (It’s time to plan the Orotina airport)
They’re probably correct if by “it’s time to plan” means we should start planning it now and have it ready by 2050 but, as usual the authors give us NO IDEAS whatsoever how little old Costa Rica would come up with the BILLIONS of dollars required.
La Republica refers to the cost of new Denver airport in the USA ($4.8 BILLION) and the new Istanbul, Turkey airport ($5.6 BILLION)
May 14, 2015 at 12:30 am #200116AndrewKeymaster
If and when Costa Rica decides to build another international airport, it won’t need one anywhere near as big (or expensive) as the two you cite.
A better yardstick would be these two recently built airports
The two airports were specifically mentioned by La Republica and I agree that Denver and Istanbul are way too big to compare to Costa Rica’s traffic but, even in the extremely unlikely event that Costa Rica was to build an “international airport” for as low as a coupla hundred million – ‘cos we know it’ll cost 2-3 times as much as anywhere else – then we still don’t have that money!
May 14, 2015 at 4:05 pm #200117AndrewKeymasterMy April 2006 article entitled ‘Costa Rica’s New International Airport to be Built in the Sierpe Valley – Maybe…’ was written a long time ago but apart from the fact that the article looked at a new airport in the Southern Zone, I think a lot of the information there is still correct although the prices will have increased dramatically.
In that article we examined at the costs, at that time for the following airports: Port Seattle, St. Louis, Honduras, Ecuador and Colombia.
Please let me know where you think my logic may be misplaced with regards to this story as I am happy to rethink this…
