A building contractor who was constructing homes for foreigners in Atenas and took their money and never completed their homes was found guilty of four counts of fraudulent administration by the Alajuela Criminal Court last week.
The judges determined that the local contractor committed four crimes and they granted 3 years of prison as a penalty.
Additionally, the judges accepted four civil claims against the contractor and he will have to pay the following amounts, in addition to all legal costs. Victim 1: $185,520.00, Victim 2: $81,600.00, Victim 3: $28,625.00, Victim 4: $200,000.00.
I completed a Construction Inspection for one of the victims, and he utilized my Inspection Report to help substantiate the fraudulent administration by the contractor.
When unknowing foreigners get involved with local building contractors, the process can become confusing.
I’m available to help you enter into construction contracts and materials and installation specifications that are in your favor, and I will monitor your entire building process, to insure that your project is completed according to the construction contract and specifications that you selected and paid for. Send me a message if you have any questions or concerns. tom@CostaRicaHomeBuilder.com
