Does anyone have any additional insight into the pending executive decree, in terms of attracting foreign retirees to Costa Rica? Some of the other Latin countries surrounding Costa Rica, have some very good incentives for foreign retirees. Hopefully, Costa Rica will consider free vehicle and household goods imports!
February 22, 2010 at 8:45 pm #204536AndrewKeymasterAs Attorney Roger Petersen clearly stated in his article at [ https://www.welovecostarica.com/members/Costa_Rica_Declares_Baby_Boomers_To_Be_A_National_Priority.cfm ]
“We won’t know the extent of those incentives until the Executive Decree is signed and published.”
Any other opinion at this time is pure speculation…

Here are a couple of other questions which you might be able to answer: Is the signing of this decree (regardless of content) imminent? Do these presidential decrees become established laws upon signing, or is further action/ratification required by the legislature?
Thanks.
February 23, 2010 at 3:16 pm #204539AndrewKeymasterOscar Arias has very little time left in office here so I’m assuming he has to sign this soon but, when all the details of this program are known and when this would actually take effect? We have no idea ….
February 23, 2010 at 4:04 pm #204540DavidCMurrayParticipantSue, the only way to be certain that President Arias signs the decree and that it takes effect is to do your business first. As soon as you’ve sent your container, shipped your car, etc, it’ll take effect.
So do the others a favor, eh?

Well a very positive article if only a teaser right now. I think we all would love to know more as we make our retirement plans. Mine are for Oct/Nov of next year. I must admit I have considered Panama due to the huge financial incentives they offer. Of course CR offers the superior life style we all love. Will there be more updates here as as they become available?
Best to all,
BillFebruary 24, 2010 at 12:35 am #204542sueandchrisMemberDavid: Ain’t THAT the truth! But I would prefer someone ELSE to the the canary in the cage! I still have five months before I stuff all our belongings into the container.
But I am wondering how this decree might effect the work that must be currently performed by an immigration attorney? If the process were much easier…….? Sue
February 24, 2010 at 9:58 pm #204543VmcMemberThose of you with whom I have spoken know that we are counting the days, but this impending decree may cause us to re-think our timetable just a little bit……Hope they lift some of the oppressive duties and restrictions, I’m sure that more Baby Boomers would come…..Hope it’s done before the end of April.
Hope to see you all soon!
Dan.
