Best Dressed Choir Ladies I’ve Ever Seen

It was a cool, rainy evening in San Jose and I was so looking forward to the performance of the Oratorio Society of New York at Teatro Nacional…

So much that I didn’t even mind listening to the music of Britney Spears whilst eating a light prawn salad dinner at my lady friend’s house beforehand.

Must have been the best dressed choir ladies I have ever seen! The ladies, many quite distinguished looking, were all wearing elegant black dresses, oyster pearl necklaces which was complimented by the burgundy red music folders which they held in their hands.

I was a little disappointed in the performance of Handel’s Messiah which we both found to be lacking in energy. However, when Carmina Burana began, the whole choir, orchestra and audience seemed to wake up and come alive.

The soloists were very professional, far more passionate, animated and they obviously thoroughly enjoyed the piece, much more so than the Messiah (sounds blasphemous)!

It was nearly 800 hundred years ago when the lyrics to these songs and poems of ‘Carmina Burana’ were written. The majority of it was written in Latin (with a little German) and if you read the words you’ll see that they are singing about the joys of love, beauty, women, gambling, drinking and partying the night away in the tavern (In Taberna).

Yes! We have the internet and awesome technology 800 years later, but have we as human beings changed that much?
