Costa Rica Essay Competition – National winner gets 125,000 colones in cash.
The WeLoveCostaRica.com Essay Contest is open to all students (no matter where they were born) living in many different areas of Costa Rica aged 12 – 21 in both English and Spanish.
One national WeLoveCostaRica.com prize of c125,000 will be given to the best English language essay and another national prize of 125,000 will be given (to a different person), for the best Spanish language essay.
Why I Love Living In…
The title of the essay is ‘Why I Love Living In ……’ The geographical area should be the town you are living in, for example: ‘Why I Love Living In Escazu’ rather than ‘Why I Love Living In Costa Rica.’
Photographs will make the articles more colorful but are not mandatory – You can win the essay competition without including photographs although excellent photographs can help improve an article.
Please make sure your article is focused on your specific area. Our 8,600+ VIP Member readers are very interested in hearing about any unique and unusual historical events, architecture, cultural attractions and the people who are making a difference in your area.
If your location is rich in wildlife, spectacular scenery, beaches, mountains waterfalls and jungles or famous for a particular kind of agriculture, we would be interested in knowing about that too…

How You Can Win Cash Prizes:
There are local prizes in specific geographical areas and national prizes. For example, the best essay about ‘Why I Love Living In Escazu’ will win c50,000 and the best essay about ‘Why I Love Living In Santa Ana?’ will win c50,000
The local areas that are presently applicable are: Escazu, Santa Ana, Ciudad Colon, Heredia, San Jose, Dominical, Jaco, Esterillos, Manuel Antonio, Quepos, Liberia, Arenal, Grecia, Atenas and Puerto Viejo.
Rules Of The Competition – The essay:
The essay should be a minimum of 500 words and no more than 1,000 words. All entries should be emailed in Rich Text Format (.rtf) or Text Format (.txt) only to premio@WeLoveCostaRica.com before midnight on the 30th April 2008. Please do not email Word Documents .doc – WeLoveCostaRica.com retains the right to archive and reprint all articles.
The local winners from around the country and the two national prize winners will be announced in English and in Spanish on www.WeLoveCostaRica.com on or before the 31st May 2008 and the prizes will be paid personally by Scott Oliver the founder of WeLoveCostaRica.com by the end of June 2008.
The winners will be chosen by our VIP Member readers who will be given the opportunity to vote for each article.
Digital Photographs:
Please do not send photographs unless we specifically request them. Photographs should only be emailed to us after your essay has been approved and published on WeLoveCostaRica.com
If requested, we can use six photographs per essay and these photographs should be sent via e-mail in .jpeg or .gif formats only. Please remember to include the photographer’s name in the body of the email and the names of subjects (if possible or applicable), and descriptions of people and places and activities in the photo. Photographs of people must have the person’s permission for publication. Proof of permission may be required.
