Having A Baby In Costa Rica
Many VIP Members are moving to Costa Rica to settle in and start a family so I thought I would share my most recent family experience.
My wife and I recently had our second child two weeks ago. He was born at CIMA Hospital in San Jose. The experience the second time around was a good as the first.
It is really something to be surrounded by some many competent bilingual professionals. The hospital experience was flawless and relatively inexpensive.
For natural births you can expect to pay between US$2,000 – US$3,300 for the entire package depending on your room choice (suites are available), and if you stay one or two nights.
My wife and I are both US citizens and our children are dual citizens. They don’t have to choose a nationality. It is an ideal situation. Also, having a child born in Costa Rica gives the parents a clear right to residency, and although they don’t just hand out cedulas after the birth, as long as you follow the steps, it should be straight forward.
