Whilst walking around the lake in San Jose’s Parque La Sabana, I spotted this magnificent bird of prey soaring above the water looking for a bite to eat and you know what?

I don’t think anyone else even noticed it even though I was taking trying desperately to take a photograph of it for about 20 minutes.

These photographs were taken with a small, unsophisticated pocket camera which I always carry in my fanny pack but it was enough to identify it.

This bird of prey is the Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) which is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey.

It is a large raptor, reaching 60 centimeters (24 in) in length with a 1.8 metre (6 ft) wingspan. It is brown on the upper parts and predominantly greyish on the head and underparts, with a black eye patch and wings.
