Bolivian President Calls For Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize to be Revoked
On 22nd March 2011 Bolivian President Evo Morales has called for US President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize to be revoked following his decision to attack Libya.
‘Two years ago we heard that President Barack Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize, but is he defending peace in the world now, or isn’t he instead fomenting violence?’ Morales told reporters, days after Obama ordered the bombing of Libya military targets as part of an UN-approved effort to protect civilians.
Boy! The emails were flying when it was announced that President O’Bomba won the Nobel Peace Prize two years ago but, surely people are overreacting when they write articles entitled: “Warmonger Wins Peace Prize?” (1)
And that: “The Nobel Committee has awarded the 2009 Peace Prize to President Obama, the person who started a new war in Pakistan, upped the war in Afghanistan, and continues to threaten Iran with attack unless Iran does what the US government demands and relinquishes its rights as a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty.” (1)
Isn’t it admirable that: Alfred Nobel was a “scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, author and pacifist?” (2)
But perhaps we should also note that he was also: “… a Swedish chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite. He owned Bofors, a major armaments manufacturer, which he had redirected from its previous role as an iron and steel mill.”
Oh! Really!
“During the last decade of his life, Alfred Nobel came to engage himself in the development and exploitation of different weapons technology inventions, for instance rockets, cannons and progressive powder.”
Hmmm!
So actually, our old mate Alfie Nobel created the Nobel Peace Prize after he had already made the equivalent of hundreds of millions of dollars inventing, manufacturing and selling weapons of mass destruction!
For such a brilliant inventor, he said some remarkably foolish things as he did in 1891 when he commented on his dynamite factories by saying:
“Perhaps my factories will put an end to war sooner than your congresses: on the day that two army corps can mutually annihilate each other in a second, all civilised nations will surely recoil with horror and disband their troops.”
And that worked out just as he had thought, eh?
When Alfred Nobel’s brother died, a French newspaper made a mistake in writing the obituary of Alfred Nobel – instead of is brother – and condemned him for his invention of dynamite.
The obituary stated: “Le marchand de la mort est mort” which means “The merchant of death is dead” and went on to say, “Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday.”
Alfred Nobel was fortunate to have enjoyed a peaceful life however many of the products he invented and manufactured were not designed for peace, they were designed to kill lots of people, most of whom also wanted to enjoy peaceful lives.
Nominations for potential winners of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ended on the 1st February 2009 and since the president took office only 12 days earlier on January 20, he could only have won this prize for his work before becoming president and for the first 12 days of his presidency… A remarkable achievement!
Although President O’Bomba and his family have also enjoyed a peaceful life, the ‘hope’ that people had for any kind of a ‘change’ has clearly evaporated and, his actions abroad in Afghanistan, Pakistan and now Libya have so far only led to more people being slaughtered and some might say he really does deserve Nobel’s Prize.
