Building Your Own Retirement Home Part XVIII. 18 weeks and US$69,111.35 invested in construction so far.
It was a misty day up at the mountain today when we visited the construction site. With two afternoon this week of very heavy rains in San Jose, the rainy season has most definitely begun.
So absolutely everything is covered in a thick layer of dust which makes us wonder why they wanted to install some of the lamps before sanding down the floors…
We had our first ‘little accident’ this week when the bathroom lamp fell and crashed to the floor in a million pieces when they were installing it but, we’ve been very fortunate so we’ll order another.
Juan Carlos has begun placing the river rocks in the chimney and the living room wall. With the help of the experts where we bought the river rocks, we have all seriously underestimated the amount of rocks required and have just ordered three times as much as we had been originally advised to buy…
This should hopefully be enough to finish this section as well as the bedroom wall and the part around the front door.
I’m honestly not convinced as to how good these river rocks will look in the end but, my lady tells me not to worry! When it’s all finished, scrubbed and cleaned with the half log at the front she assures me it will look great…
Women do tend to have much better imaginations for than men with this stuff so I guess “vamos a ver” or, “we will see!”
The sawmill has delivered all the remaining panels that are required for the garage area so he was paid the US$3,850 balance that was owed to him.
