Renewing Your Cedula/Residency At Banco de Costa Rica.
On the 9th July 2009 I renewed my cedula (Costa Rica’s identification card) and unlike years gone by when we had to stand in line at the immigration department’s offices for hours wondering if we were really in the right line, this was an incredibly pleasant and very short experience.
We made the appointment by telephone a few weeks ago with Banco de Costa Rica who said I should arrive ten minutes early for my 11.20am appointment.
I arrived at 11am sharp, was called in at 11.09 and left the bank having completed everything – which meant paying US$58 for a two year renewal plus c2,600 for delivery of the cedula, photographs, fingerprints and signing a couple of forms – at 11.21am.
Bloody miraculous!
Now I must wait until August 6th before picking up my new cedula at the nearest Post Office.
This is a very short article because it was an extremely short and pleasant process…
