Costa Rica Real Estate Investment Consultant Jeff Hickcox and his wife Mary have called Costa Rica their home since 2006. They moved here with their two boys to escape the rat race atmosphere in the U.S. along with the cold winters.

They have since had another baby boy here in Costa Rica. The boys (10, 6, & 2) really enjoy getting to play outside all year round in the beautiful climate in Atenas.

Jeff & Mary chose Atenas as their home because of its tranquil small-town feel and convenience to both beaches and premium services in the city. It is said to have the ‘Best Climate in the World’ which also had tremendous appeal to them.

Atenas is located in the western Central Valley about halfway between San Jose and the central Pacific beaches. They are both less than a 30-minute drive respectively.

You can expect to find North American style single-family homes in Atenas ranging from $120,000 to $1.4 million. Atenas has several popular gated and private communities as well as many safe mixed-resident neighborhoods.

The western Central Valley does not allow for condos therefore inventory remains relatively low since inventory levels only grow one single-family home at a time. In fact, inventory of quality North American homes is reaching a new low here which is creating opportunity for spec’ home investors/builders.
