Traffic Cameras in Costa Rica
In an effort to monitor traffic problems, improve traffic flow and cut down on accidents caused by speeding, you’ll find more and more traffic cameras in San Jose.
The new system will allow the controllers to adjust the lights at 326 intersections according to the flow of traffic which should cut down on unnecessary delays and the amount of fuel used and result lower overall car pollution…
The Autopista General Cañas (the main highway from the San Jose out towards the international airport) see about 80,000 cars every day. Supposedly 80% of them exceed the speed limit and some have been clocked at 160kph early in the morning…
The MOPT (Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes) is installing the network of cameras and computerized radar detectors and will place signs to inform drivers. Each camera will supposedly do the work of ten officers and of course the cameras work 24 hours a day without complaining and without demanding overtime.
