Argentine Soccer Star Lionel Messi’s Prized Autograph – Gone with the wind

Well the doodoo certainly hit the fan in my girlfriend’s house last week …

I know didley squat about football (or “soccer” for all you gringos out there) but it’s easy to see that 24 year old Lionel Andrés “Leo” Messi is a talented player.

Messi is an Argentine footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team and he’s considered one of the best football players in the world today.

You only have to watch Lionel Messi’s four goals (video below) in a game against Arsenal a couple of years back to appreciate his skill with a ball.

With the inauguration of the brand, spanking new $100 million sports stadium in San José, Costa Rica, a friendly match was arranged between Costa Rica and Argentina for the 29th March but, even though the Ticos were incredibly excited to see Messi play, he was advised not to because of a “groin strain” or “muscle spasms” depending on the news source.

This was probably a good thing since the game ended in a goalless draw but a friend of a friend who is a well known TV personality here, managed to get Lionel Messi’s autograph for my girlfriend’s soccer mad 16 year old son and he was very, very excited.

Unfortunately he foolishly left this prized possession on his desk at home, he went off to the beach for the weekend with friends and when he returned, Messi’s autograph had disappeared – gone with the wind – and where it is now, nobody knows.

Another lesson learned…
